about

Paris filtering attempt nr. 1 was created in 2014 using IRCAM’s AudioSculpt software programme. The largely unremarkable original recording was made from a Paris rooftop in September 2014 approximately one-third of a kilometre northeast across the Seine from the source in question, whose identity should become apparent. The title is a reference to Georges Perec’s book An Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris that I was reading at the time, very near to where he wrote this account of “what happens when nothing happens” 29 years previously. For Perec, the border between empirical study and the subjectively surreal becomes so narrow as to be meaningless.

Taken from the album Soundscape Experiments.
