This is an offshoot of a piece for singer and ensemble I wrote a few years ago called “tightrope walker” (you can hear a recording at soundcloud.com/petemaskreplica/tightrope-walker). The lyrics are something to do with a situation which is at once freeing and perilous. In the ensemble performance, the musicians were spread around the auditorium, partly in order to expand the sense of space. A single cello coming out of your speakers can’t quite do that of course, but I hope it helps whatever space you’re in right now seem less confined.
